2. Offers cannot be combined with any other offer and are limited to one type of offer (Small, Medium or Large home) per residence for the same Hydro-Québec account number.

3. To take advantage of the Hilo smart home service and its offers, the participant must satisfy the following conditions:
(i)  Commit to participating in Hilo challenges for a period of three (3) years;
(ii)  Be a Hydro-Québec customer who is a holder, co-holder or mandatary of a Rate D contract for residential use, such as a tenant or owner of a residence where the Hilo smart home service will be installed;
(iii)  Have connected devices acquired from Hilo; and
(iv)  Have a smart mobile device onto which the Hilo mobile application can be downloaded and used (visit the hiloenergie.com website for details on compatible devices).
Note: The aforementioned device is not included in the Hilo smart home service. Standard text and data fees apply to all notifications and to remote access via the Internet or a mobile network.

4. To take advantage of the Hilo smart home service and its offers, the participant must ensure their residence satisfies the following conditions:
(i)  have a minimum of 50% of its heating load provided by electrical heaters connected to Hilo thermostats—following the installation of the Hilo smart home service;
(ii)  be equipped with a Hydro-Québec smart meter;
(iii)  be equipped with electrical installations that comply at all times with electrical standards and applicable laws currently in effect;
(iv)  have a high-speed Internet connection, a wireless network and a free, functional Ethernet port on a modem or router;
(v)  be a single-family, semi-detached or row house-type home, or be located in a building of two or more units; and
(vi)  be located in a city where the Hilo smart home service is offered (visit the hiloenergie.com website for details).

5. A Hilo offer may be accompanied by a credit. In such a case, the credit corresponds to the difference between (a) the total amount of the price of connected devices and smart home hub (if applicable) and (b) the amount paid for the offer indicated on the participant’s invoice (before any discounts, if applicable). The credit is paid by Hilo unless the agreement is terminated. In cases where the agreement is terminated, if there is a credit balance in the participant’s account, payment of this balance is immediately due and payable by the participant. The credit balance is calculated on a pro-rata basis and covers the portion of the thirty-six (36) month contract that remained unfulfilled starting on the day the credit, or a portion of the credit, was added to the participant’s account. In such a case, the amount of the credit balance to be paid by the participant will be increased by an amount equivalent to the sales taxes.

Bundles of connected products

Last update March 2022. Bundles are subject to change without notice and cannot be combined for a single residence and for a single Hydro-Québec account number. Taxes are not included. To enroll in the Hilo smart home service, the Participant must read and agree to the Hilo Smart Home Service Terms of Service. Please consult the Participant Agreement.

As specified in the Participant Agreement, the eligibility criteria for the Hilo smart home service are as follows (these eligibility criteria may vary):

(i) Be a Hydro-Québec customer and a holder, co-holder, or agent of a Rate D subscription for residential use, as a tenant or as the owner of the home where the Hilo smart home service will be installed

(ii) Have a smart mobile device on which to download and use the Hilo mobile application (visit this page for compatible versions). This device is not included in the Hilo smart home service. Standard messaging and data charges apply to all notifications and remote access over the Internet or mobile network.

(iii) In addition, the residence must:

a. Have at least 50% of its heating load provided by electric heaters connected to Hilo thermostats after installation of the Hilo smart home service
b. Be equipped with a Hydro-Quebec smart meter
c. Be equipped with electrical installations that comply at all times with electrical standards and applicable laws in effect
d. Have a high-speed Internet connection, a wireless network, and a free and functional Ethernet port on the modem or router
e. Be a single-family, semi-detached, or row house, or be in a building of two units or more
f. Be in a city where the Hilo smart home service is available

At the time of purchase of a Hilo Solution or Hilo brand Smart Home Hub, as applicable, the Participant may be granted a Credit by Hilo. When purchasing a Hilo Solution, the Credit is calculated as follows: total value of the current selling price, established by Hilo, for the Connected Devices (included in the Hilo Solution) necessary for the Service; plus (+) the value of Hilo’s current selling price for the Hilo brand Smart Home Hub established by Hilo, if applicable; minus (-) the amount billed to the Participant before taxes and before any additional rebates offered during a temporary promotion at the time of the sale (if applicable). When purchasing a Hilo brand Smart Home Hub only, the Credit corresponds to the current selling price established by Hilo of such Smart Home Hub.

Hilo assumes the Credit in full as follows: the Credit balance decreases based on an equalized monthly discount over a period of thirty-six (36) months beginning on the order date. The Credit balance will be updated in the Participant’s account. The Participant may obtain his or her Credit balance by contacting Hilo’s customer service department.

If this Agreement is terminated, the Credit balance will become immediately due and payable by the Participant on the effective date of termination.

FAQ

When are the rewards paid out?

The rewards you earn will be given to you via Interac transfer once the challenge season is over. You will receive an email confirming the total amount of your rewards and detailed instructions on how to securely accept the transfer using a secret answer. Within 5 business days, you will receive a second email from which you can accept the transfer and deposit your rewards to the account of your choice.

Make sure you write the secret answer correctly. After three failed attempts, the transfer will be canceled. We will make a new transfer within 5 business days.

What devices are compatible with the Hilo app?

To access the Hilo solution, you absolutely must have Hilo thermostats. Otherwise, any connected devices (switches, wall outlets, bulbs, etc.) that operate using the ZigBee protocol will be compatible with our solution and can be among the devices controlled through our application. That said, note that these devices will be excluded from Hilo challenges and will not be covered by our customer service guarantees.

What is a Hilo challenge?

Hilo challenges occur during peak consumption periods between December 1 and March 31 at a rate of up to 30 times per winter period. For the challenges, Hilo invites participants to lower the set temperature of their thermostats. The way challenges work is simple: If you participate automatically in all the Hilo challenges, there are no adjustments you need to make—we’ll send you a notification about the challenge the preceding day and that’s it! All that’s left is for you to limit your energy consumption during the challenge so you can earn the maximum cash reward. For more information about challenges, please see: here

How do I earn rewards?

Hilo challenges pay! During the cold weather season, we offer up to 30 energy reduction challenges. If you succeed, you’ll earn a cash reward. The reward calculation is simple: Accept the automatic actions suggested by Hilo and earn a reward for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of energy you do not consume. What does signing up for Hilo involve?

Signing up for Hilo means accepting to participate in and succeed at your reduction challenges for 3 winters. Signing up also allows you to:

  • benefit from a smart home bundle at a low price, in addition to connected devices offered as a bonus, which you own starting on day 1 of your commitment
  • control all of your connected devices at the touch of a button using our mobile application
  • learn about your home’s energy consumption depending on the time of day and day of the week
  • receive cash rewards for participating in our challenges (where you can earn an average of $166 per year)
  • save up to 15% on your electricity bill
What is the return on my investment?

Year after year, you will continue to save energy and earn cash rewards. This means that after one or two years, depending on the size of your bundle, your equipment will be paid for and you’ll continue to earn savings and rewards.

For example, if you have a Medium Home bundle for a detached house, we estimate the average potential reward to be $166 per year. $166 multiplied by 3 years (which is the length of your commitment) equals $498. This doesn’t include your annual savings on your electricity bill, which can be as high as 15%. With all this in mind and given that the price of our Medium Home bundle is $399,99, a return on your initial investment can be expected before the end of your 3-year agreement!
