Hilo and Rate Flex D: A Winning Combination!

August 12th, 2025

Hydro-Québec’s offers are constantly evolving to help Quebecers manage their electricity use during peak periods in winter. That’s why customers who opt for Hilo are now automatically enrolled in Rate Flex D.

How does Rate Flex D work?

With Rate Flex D, you can save up to 20% on your winter electricity bill. How, exactly? You pay a lower price for electricity in winter—lower than the Rate D (base rate) price—except during certain key moments: peak demand events, which can take place up to 30 times per winter period (December 1 to March 31).

During peak demand events, it’s important that you reduce your electricity use as much as possible. And since Hilo can automate such a reduction using connected devices (thermostats, electric water heater controllers, charging station solutions for electric vehicles), you won’t need to give it another thought. Hilo will take care of it for you!

What’s more, with the Hilo app, you can track your electricity use on an hourly and daily basis, see the savings you’re making and adjust your habits as needed. It’s a simple, effective and accessible way to contribute to our collective energy transition goals while lowering your electricity bill.

As always:

  • You can see your electricity use in real time and track your savings.
  • The electricity use of connected devices is optimized during peak demand events.
  • You remain in full control of your thermostats at all times.

Already a Hilo customer?

It’s simple: just keep optimizing your electricity use during peak demand events like you would during challenges. The main difference is that instead of accumulating cash rewards, you’ll get a credit of an equivalent amount directly on your bill. You’ll still be able to count on the Hilo app to help you track your consumption.
