Learn more about how Hilo works
* The average potential savings amount is based on the actual consumption of Hilo customers using both a smart heating solution (across all device and housing types) and a smart water heater solution, calculated according to the Rate Flex D pricing in effect at the time. This average is derived from data spanning the last three winter seasons (2022–2025) and is calculated on the basis of 100 hours of participation or 25 peak demand events. Potential savings represent the difference between Rate Flex D and the base rate (Rate D), including applicable taxes. The estimate factors in the use of a smart water heater controller. The savings shown are based on tests conducted with customers who used this solution during the 2024–2025 winter season. Actual savings may vary depending on the level of customer participation and the total number of peak demand event hours during the winter.
Easily manage your Hilo-connected smart devices, even remotely. Track your electricity use in real time and choose the settings that will apply during peak demand events.
Maximize your savings with a lower electricity rate and automated devices.
This is where your savings come from. With Rate Flex D, your electricity costs less for most of the winter. The only exception is during peak demand events — specific times when prices increase.
During these events, electricity costs more. To keep the savings you’ve built up with Rate Flex D, simply reduce your energy use at home as much as possible during peak demand events.
During peak periods, Hilo automatically adjusts your smart devices to lower your energy use — so you can keep more of the savings you’ve built up with Rate Flex D.
