How to sign up for Hilo
Ready to save energy and start automating your connected devices during peak demand events? You’ve come to the right place! Learn how to sign up for Hilo in three simple steps.

As easy as 1, 2, 3!
1. Choose your smart devices
Start with the Hilo hub — your smart home’s centralized command centre. This essential device connects your compatible smart devices to the Hilo mobile app. And the best part? It’s completely free when you sign up for Hilo!
Next, select the number of Hilo smart thermostats you need for your home’s electric baseboard heaters or heated floors.
Already have smart thermostats? Great news! Many models from Honeywell Home, Mysa, and Sinopé are now compatible with Hilo — plus, you’ll get a cash bonus* when you add them to the app!
2. Connect your compatible devices
When you purchase Hilo smart thermostats, professional installation is included. Simply schedule an appointment when placing your order, and a certified electrician will install and connect your devices on the agreed date. They’ll also show you how to use your new smart thermostats to maximize their benefits.
If you already have Hilo-compatible thermostats, a water heater controller or a compatible EVduty charging station, just download the Hilo app, plug in your Hilo hub, and connect your devices (step-by-step instructions can be found here).
Once everything’s set up, our intuitive mobile app lets you manage your smart thermostats from anywhere. Whether you’re at home or on the go, you can program your thermostats, create custom scenes, receive notifications for peak demand events, monitor your home’s power usage, and more! Please note that some features may not be available when using third-party compatible thermostats.
3. Save during peak demand events!
Each winter, Hydro-Québec offers up to 30 peak demand events, during which Hilo will automate your Hilo smart thermostats, compatible Honeywell Home, Mysa, or Sinopé thermostats, your EVduty charging station or your electric water heater.
During these peak events, Hilo will automatically lower the temperature on your thermostats, delay your electric vehicle’s charging by a few hours or turn off your water heater. The goal is to reduce your overall energy use and ease demand on the grid.
And that’s it — you’re all set!
