Last update December 15, 2021. Beta Smart Solution for Water Heaters subject to change without notice. Taxes are not included. To enroll in the Hilo smart home service, the Participant must read and agree to the Hilo Smart Home Service Terms of Service.
The eligibility criteria for the Beta Smart Solution for Water Heaters as part of the Hilo smart home solution are as follows (these eligibility criteria may vary):
(i) Be a Hydro-Québec customer and a holder, co-holder, or agent of a Rate D subscription for residential use, as a tenant or as the owner of the home where the Hilo smart home service will be installed;
(ii) Have a smart mobile device on which to download and use the Hilo mobile application (visit this page for compatible versions). This device is not included in the Hilo smart home service. Standard messaging and data charges apply to all notifications and remote access over the Internet or mobile network. And;
(iii) Have a functional electric water heater system that is compatible with the Beta Smart Solution for Water Heaters (and listed as being such on the Hilo website) for the duration of the Agreement.
(iv) In addition, the residence must:
a. Be equipped with a Hydro-Québec smart meter;
b. Be equipped with electrical fittings and plumbing, as the case may be, that complies at all times with regulations and laws concerning electricity and plumbing, as the case may be, currently in effect;
c. Have access to a high-speed Internet connection, a wireless network and a free, functional Ethernet port on a modem or router;
d. Be a single-family, attached (“semi-detached”) or row house or located in a building containing two or more residences; and
e. Be located in a city where the beta smart solution for water heaters from the Hilo smart home service is available.
Upon purchase of the Beta Smart Solution for Water Heaters, Hilo grants the participant a financial benefit in the form of a rebate (the "Credit"). This Credit is calculated as follows: the total amount of the price of the connected devices included in the Beta Smart Solution for Water Heaters plus installation costs minus the amount the participant pays at the time of billing for the Beta Smart Solution for Water Heaters. Hilo fully assumes this credit provided the Participant participates in the Hilo challenges for a minimum period of thirty-six (36) months. The Credit balance will decrease based on an equal monthly reduction over this thirty-six (36) month period.
If the participant cancels their contract with Hilo or stops participating in Hilo challenges before the end of the thirty-six (36) month period, the Credit balance becomes immediately due and payable, and the participant must pay the Credit balance on the effective date of cancellation. The amount of the credit balance payable by the participant is subject to specific taxation rules and must therefore be increased to consider any tax deemed to be included in such a payment under subsection 182(1) of the Excise Tax Act and section 318 of the Act Respecting the Quebec Sales Tax. These taxes deemed to be included are almost equivalent to the GST and the QST.
Beta Smart Solution for Water Heaters is not included in the Hilo Challenges for the 2021-2022 season.
