Peak demand events
Why do my Hilo thermostats automatically start heating during the night before a scheduled preheating phase?
If you're on Hydro-Québec's Rate Flex D and you've set up a scene that lowers the temperature overnight, it's normal for your thermostats to start heating as early as 1 a.m. on the day of a morning peak demand event.
To keep you comfortable and protect your savings, a temperature maintenance period automatically begins at 1 a.m. when this type of scene is active. Its purpose is to offset the effects of the overnight temperature drop, which could otherwise make the preheating phase less effective.
Consider enabling preheating only in the rooms you'll use in the morning — like the living room, kitchen, or your home office. This prevents the bedroom from getting too warm at night while keeping key rooms at a comfortable temperature for the morning.
