How does the load controller in Hilo’s smart water heater solution work?

The load controller acts like a switch, turning your water heater on and off as needed.

During peak periods — when Hilo challenges are active — the water heater is automatically turned off. However, the large volume of water stored in the tank stays hot for several hours, allowing you to use a reasonable amount of hot water during the challenge period. This ensures that your comfort is maintained. Once the challenge ends, the water heater automatically restarts and resumes normal operation.

During a challenge, a temperature sensor installed in the upper part of the tank and connected to the controller ensures that the water heater will automatically restart if the water temperature drops to the minimum threshold of 49°C.
