What is considered moderate hot water use?
If you have a 60-gallon (imperial) water heater set to 60°C, you’ll have access to approximately 438 litres of mixed water at 40°C. That’s equivalent to about 25 to 35 minutes of hot water use at a flow rate of 10 litres per minute. With a 40-gallon (imperial) tank, that amount drops to around 290 litres, or roughly 16 to 25 minutes of use at the same flow rate.
This means that during a challenge, you’ll still have enough hot water for several showers before the system’s safety mechanism kicks in. The exact number depends on the size of your water heater, its temperature setting, and the length and temperature of your showers.
