What happens to the load controller during a power outage?

When a power outage lasts more than 30 minutes, the DR/MFR indicator light turns green.

Shortly after service is restored, the load controller will revert to its pre-outage status. If the controller was on, power will automatically be restored to the water heater. If it was off, power to your water heater will remain off.

About 30 minutes after service is restored, check to make sure the load indicator light is red. If it isn’t, press the button on the water heater to turn it on.

Note: The DR/MFR indicator also lights up green when the water heater is in peak demand event mode.
