  • Make sure you’ve downloaded the Hilo app and created your account.

The button is used to turn the water heater load controller on or off.

  • Pairing the water heater load controller

Follow these steps in the Hilo mobile app:

  • Go to the Devices page.
  • Tap the + icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Tap Add a device.
  • Tap Water heater.
  • Tap I don’t have a Data Matrix code.
  • Tap Continue, then press the device button (see Figure 1) for about 3 seconds. The centre indicator light will change from yellow to flashing blue.
  • Tap Continue.

The search will take up to 45 seconds.

Once the controller is detected, the centre indicator light will turn green.

  • In the app, tap Close when you see the message "Device added!" The Devices page will reappear, and the controller will now appear under the name Water heater.
  • From the tile in the Hilo mobile app, run a quick test: turn the controller off. The red load indicator light will (alt : should) go out.
  • Turn the controller back on by pressing the device button. The red indicator light will turn back on and, after a few seconds, the tile in the app should show that the device is powered on.

How does it work?

The smart water heater solution is made up of two devices that communicate with each other: a sensor and a controller. The sensor continuously tracks the water temperature in the tank, while the load controller acts like a switch, turning the heater on or off as needed.
