Are all Hydro-Québec customers eligible for Hilo and able to add compatible thermostats to the app? 

No. To be eligible, you must live in a municipality where Hilo is available. Currently, Hilo service covers 95% of Hydro-Québec customers, and efforts are underway to expand availability across the entire service area 

 

To sign up for Hilo, you must also meet the following conditions:  

  • Be the account holder, co-holder, or authorized representative on a residential Hydro-Québec account subscribed to either: 
  • the base rate (Rate D) with the Winter Credit Option (you’ll need to cancel that option once your connected thermostats are installed), or 
  • Rate Flex D (you’ll need to contact Hydro-Québec customer service to get started). 
  • Have a Hydro-Québec communicating (smart) meter. 
  • Have high-speed internet (minimum 5 Mbps), a home Wi-Fi network, and a free, working Ethernet port on your modem or router. 
  • Own a smartphone or other smart mobile device capable of downloading and using the Hilo app. 
  • Live in a home with equipment that’s compatible with Hilo.

Anyone who meets the eligibility criteria can use their compatible thermostats with the Hilo app or purchase Hilo smart thermostats or other supported models.
